Como Park MN Information

Como Park was settled as farmland in the mid 1800's. Como Lake was named in 1848 and was incorporated into the city of St. Paul in 1854. Real estate developer Henry McKenty believed Como Park MN real estate would make a great resort area and began construction on Como Road in 1868. McKenty's vision never developed, but today Como Road is part of Como Avenue, a major street running through the neighborhood.

The 256 acres on the west side of Lake Como was purchased by the city of St. Paul in 1873 for its picturesque location. The electric street car made its way to Lake Como in 1893 and allowed Saint Paul residents to make the 3-mile trip to Como Lake Park in 30 minutes. In 1897, the Como Zoo was built. The Como Lakeside Pavilion was constructed from 1905 to 1906. Then in 1915, the Como Park Conservatory was created. These large structures are still the recreational center of the neighborhood.

Como Park is the most widely used park in the Twin Cities area. The zoo is free to visitors. The Marjorie McNeely Conservatory, formerly the Como Park Conservatory, is the largest indoor, glass garden in the area. The Como Lakeside Pavilion provides live entertainment several times a week throughout the summer. The Pavilion houses Black Bear Crossings, features sandwiches, desserts and coffee. The park also includes miles of biking, walking and running trails. Truly, real estate in Como Park MN has so much to offer.

The neighborhood offers both public and parochial schools. Chelsea Heights and Como Elementary are neighborhood elementary schools. Como Junior and Senior High are also part of the Como Park area.

The Minnesota State Fair Grounds border Como Park on the west. The State Fair takes place each year in August. The State Fair grounds are also used throughout the year for car shows, horse shows, antique sales, and technology fairs.
