St. Anthony MN Information
The grid for St. Anthony Park was laid out as a neighborhood between downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul in the 1870's by landscape architect Horace Cleveland. His vision was to create a neighborhood with large estates that matched the contours of the land. This plan gives St. Anthony Park its oddly shaped green spaces and winding streets.
The Burlington Northern Railroad corridor and a warehouse district split St. Anthony Park into two neighborhoods: South St. Anthony and North St Anthony. South St. Anthony is more commercial and centers on University and Raymond Avenues. The residents of St. Anthony Park enjoy the accessibility of Hampden Park Co-op, Parkview Cafe, Key's Restaurant, and Cafe Biaggio. The area nearest University Avenue is in a stage of retail and residential redevelopment.
North St. Anthony is closer to the University of Minnesota and is the home to many U of M faculty and students. The Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary is on the west end of Como Avenue. This area is home to the Bibelot Shop, Micawbers Bookstore and Muffuleta Restaurant.
Midway Stadium, the home of minor league baseball team the St. Paul Saints, is on the eastern edge of St. Anthony Park. The Saints are known for their extreme marketing, which keeps the bleachers full throughout the summer.
St. Anthony is an active community. The neighborhood boasts a Carnegie Library and features the Music in the Park Sunday Concert Series. A highlight of the year is the neighborhood's 4th of July celebration. St. Anthony Park also offers a lot of green space. The neighborhood is located near the Mississippi River, giving it access to the parks and trails. There are also a handful of neighborhood parks within the community.
There are several options for schools in this neighborhood. Chelsea Heights and St. Anthony Park are neighborhood elementary schools. Murray Junior High is located in the neighborhood, and many of the students continue on to high school at Como Senior High in nearby Como Park.
