Wyoming, Minnesota History
Wyoming is a small and quiet city of 3,852 people in Chisago County, Minnesota. The area is characterized by beautiful rolling plains. In fact, the Algonquin word "Wyoming" means "extensive meadows." Wyoming derives its name from the Wyoming Valley of Pennsylvania, from which a group of its first settlers came in 1855. It was incorporated as a village in 1902. Construction of the I-35 freeway propelled the area into a boom period in the late 1960's and 70's, and Wyoming became a statutory city in 1974. Just 30 minutes north of the Twin Cities, Wyoming has retained its great small town feel throughout its growth.
