The Bancroft Neighborhood is located south of Powderhorn Community of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Its borders are 38th Street East, Chicago Avenue, 42nd Street East and Cedar Avenue. This neighborhood was named to honor George Bancroft, an American historian. Minneapolis’ Bancroft neighborhood is mostly residential but has commercial districts along Bloomington Avenue and 38th Street.
This residential area is comprised of mostly single-family homes that were constructed before 1940. The homes here are for the most part owner-occupied as well. The tree-lined streets and appealing homes give this picturesque neighborhood an inviting feel. The homes here are full of character and are affordable.
Bancroft is only minutes away from Lake Nokomis and all the outdoor recreational opportunities it has to offer. Bancroft Community School, one of the oldest school buildings in the Minneapolis School District still operating, was built in 1912. Outdoor fun can be experienced at Powderhorn Lake, Lakes Nokomis and Hiawatha.
