Northrop is located in southern Minneapolis within the Nokomis Community. It is bound by Chicago Avenue, 42nd Street, Cedar Avenue, and Minnehaha Parkway. As are many neighborhoods in Minneapolis, Northrop gets its namesake from its elementary school. The school is named after Cyrus Northrop, University of Minnesota’s second president.

This neighborhood has many outdoor recreational opportunities, from enjoying the open parkland, to walking or biking the local trails, to enjoying the nearby Minneapolis lakes. The lakes themselves offer boating, fishing and of course swimming in the the summer months.
