Scandia Minnesota Information

About 30 miles north of the capital city of Saint Paul in Washington County, is Scandia, Minnesota. Formerly known as New Scandia Township, Scandia only officially became a city in January 2007, due to worries that it would be annexed by nearby Forest Lake. Scandia wanted to retain its unique identity as the home of the first Swedish settlers in Minnesota. Indeed, the city's heritage is evident in the local architecture, traditional Swedish meals, and festivals such as Dalapalooza and Midsommar Dag. The Gammelgarden Museum celebrates the immigrants that migrated to this area from Sweden so long ago.
