Industrial Lofts- These lofts are usually built in old historic warehouse buildings and feature a spacious one-level floor plan with no interior walls. Many of these lofts have exposed brick walls, concrete floors, high ceilings with expansive windows, and exposed duct work.

Artist Lofts- The beginning of lofts! Lofts were first created by starving artists looking for inexpensive areas to both live and create their art. Artist lofts will have very high ceilings in which a bedroom is lofted over the living space. They have features similar to the industrial lofts, but with living space on two levels. These lofts are few and far between - hard to come by.

Soft Lofts- These are the next generation of lofts and the majority of those currently being built. Inspired by the traditional loft, these are usually manufactured new. Living is still on one level, but they contain enclosed walls, mostly enclosing a bedroom or den. These lofts are built with all the amenities of a new home, but lack some of the old character and 11 foot + ceiling of a traditional St Paul loft.
