Whittier Minneapolis Real Estate

Whittier is one of Minneapolis' oldest areas. It can be found within the greater Powderhorn Community. Whittier’s borders are Franklin Avenue, Interstate 35W, Lake Street West and Lyndale Avenue South. It gets its namesake from Quaker poet John Greenleaf Whittier.

Because of Whittier’s age, it has some of the oldest homes in Minneapolis, particularly along Blaisdell Avenue and Third Avenue. These homes are obviously filled with historic charm and are very unique in their architectural styles.

This active urban area has residents who love to call Whittier home. This neighborhood is diverse in nationalities and has a rich cultural mix. The 15,000 or so Whittier residents are able to enjoy a variety of ethnic places to eat and shop along Nicollet Avenue.

Whittier is home to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, the Children's Theater, the eclectic Jungle Theater, and so much more. This area has so much within its borders that give Whittier a renowned reputation.

The range of housing styles is as diverse as the community. There are grand mansions in the area built by affluent families, brownstone row houses, and humble wood frame houses that were built in the early 20th century.
